DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR UK VISITING VISA APPLICATION

Apart from valid international passport, the HOME OFFICE did not declare any particular document compulsory to support every kind of visiting visa application. The onus is on the applicant to provide a wide range of documents to show that the requirement of the rules are met. The Home Office however provided a guild on the types of documents that an applicant may want to provide.
Based on the Home Office guide and our practical experience, the following documents are considered necessary depending on the reason for the visiting application;

HOLIDAY MAKER/TOURIST VISITOR:
*Hotel reservation (where there is no invitation and offer of accomodation);
* Proof of assets and savings such as:
– Landed properties;
– Fixed Deposit accounts;
– Treasury Bill Certificates;
– Stocks/ Shares
* Documents in proof of family circumstances such as:
– Marriage certificate;
– Children birth certificates;
– Family photographs;
– Proof of spouse’s employment and financial status (if available);
– Proof of children’s academic circumstance (if applicable);
IF APPLICANT IS A SALARY EARNER:
* Employment letter;
* Promotion letters;
* Leave letter;
* Company introduction letter confirming year of employment, status and income;
* Pay slips;
* Salary bank statement showing deposits of claimed salary;
IF APPLICANT IS SELF EMPLOYED
* Certificate of incorporation or Business Registration;
* Memorandum and articles of association;
* Company bank statement;
* Bank reference letter confirming application is sole or major signatory to the account;
* Documentary evidence of business activities such as receipts, invoices, LPOs, contract papers, bill of ladding, recomendation letters from key business partners;
IF BEING INVITED BY A FRIEND OR RELATIVE:
* Invitation letter;
* Evidence of accomodation such as tenancy or mortage documents;
* Sponsor’s bank statement (especially if maintenance or feeding or other financial assistance is offered);
* Proof of relationship with sponsor;
* Consent letter (if either parents is travelling with minor children);
* Proof of immigration status (if applicant is a foreigner in the country in which he is applying);
IF APPLICANT IS A STUDENT:
* Enrolment letter from school confirming year of enrolment, present level and expected year of graduation;
* School ID card;
* Sponsor’s letter, bank statement and proof of source of funds;
IF COMING FOR BUSINESS:
* Invitation letter from UK partner;
* Proof of previous contacts and trading activities;
IF UNDER 18:
* Birth certificate;
* Parent’s passport bio data page or other means of proof of relationship;
* Parent’s consent letter.
ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS are made compulsory if an applicant is visiting for one of the following reasons:
– Academics coming to undertake research;
– Private medical treatment;
– Organ donors;
– Prospective entrepreneur;
– Work related training;
– Performer at permit free festival;
– Approved Destination Scheme;
– Permitted paid engagement;
– Visitor (marriage/ civil partnership);
– Transit.
